1.To help Chinese medium schools improve their teaching of English, we are -
2.To enhance language education, the Government has also set language proficiency requirements for teachers of English and Putonghua.

6.Secondary schools teaching in Chinese are provided with additional support in the teaching and learning of English, including an average of two additional English Language teachers for each school, the choice of an additional native-speaking English teacher and additional recurrent grants for equipment and library books.
7.All new English and Putonghua teachers joining the profession in the 2000-01 school year will be required to meet the relevant benchmarks within one year of employment.
8.Teachers are advised on tailoring the curricula in the subjects of Chinese Language and English Language for Primary 1 to Secondary 3 students.

10.From the 1998-99 school year onwards, Chinese has been adopted as the medium of instruction (except the subject of English Language) in about 300 secondary schools, starting with the Secondary 1 intake in the 1998-99 school year and progressing each year to a higher level of secondary education.
