1.The results show that τ is independent of the original velocity of the projectile. On the other hand,the shear strain distributions near the dent measured by means of the banded structures within the matrix of the steel targets are inhomogeneous. Also,the shear strain rates of the martix and the ASB near the dent are determined during the penetration,which are in the order of 10 4 s -1 and 10 5 s -1 respectively.
