10.Abstract: Based on studies on the mechanism of sediment trapping by the vortex tube and flume and model experiments,three parameters are proposed:the diversion ratio,the trapping efficiency and the sediment carrying capacity of the vortex tube.These parameters reflect the economic index of water consumption and the effectiveness of silt trapping of the vortex tube.Besides,the relations of the angle of the tube axis to flow direction in the channel,the Froude number of flow in the channel,the vortex tube slot width and so on with the trapping effectiveness are studied respectively.On the basis of theoretical study of sorted settling of the suspended load,a method is suggested to calculate desilting and trapping of the suspended load,which has been used in the design of a desilting basin of a water power project.A hydro-electric project according to this design thought has been constructed already and has worked well for two flood seasons.
