ex-soviet
.Turkey has no diplomatic ties with Armenia and refuses to open its border with the landlocked ex-Soviet republic.
.RUSSIA and Belarus, its ex-Soviet neighbour, are supposedly brotherly Slavic nations that are in the process of forming a union state.
.That is due partly to ethnic Russians returning to the motherland after the break-up of the Soviet Union, but also to Tajiks, Georgians, Moldovans and other non-Slav citizens of ex-Soviet republics moving to Russia in search of work.
.In Minsk this week Mr Lukashenka hosted a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States—a forum for all ex-Soviet countries, bar the Baltic three, that many now privately think is redundant.
.The original list was dominated by ex-Soviet satellites (rows over Polish meat exports, Lithuanian oil imports, the siting of an Estonian war memorial, and Czech and Polish plans to host an American anti-missile defence system).
