The transverse coherence transfer function (CTF) is characterized by lowpass while the longitudinal CTF, by bandpass. So the transverse image measured represents the low spectra information of the internal transverse structure of a sample and the longitudinal image represents the high spectra information of the internal longitudinal structure.
