1.It provides a free employment counselling and placement service for the hearing impaired, sight impaired, physically handicapped, chronically ill, ex-mentally ill and mentally handicapped.
2.In June, 82 visually-impaired, 845 hearing-impaired, 158 physically handicapped and 336 mentally handicapped students were integrated into normal schools, with the help of support services from the Education Department.
3.In September, 55 visually-impaired, 665 hearing-impaired, 230 physically handicapped, 635 mentally handicapped and 201 autistic students were integrated into ordinary schools, with special educational support from the Education Department.
4.In December, there were 62 special schools including a hospital school, schools for children who were visually-impaired, hearing-impaired, physically handicapped, mentally handicapped or with adjustment problems. Of these, 19 provided residential places.
5.To facilitate school-based curriculum development to target the specific needs of pupils, the Education Department, as advised by the CDC, has completed the development of a series of Guides to Curriculum for Children with Special Educational Needs. These include the Guides to Curriculum for Visually Handicapped, Hearing Impaired, Mentally Handicapped, Physically Handicapped and Maladjusted Children.
6.In September, there were 62 special schools including two for the visually impaired, four for the hearing impaired, seven for the physically handicapped, 41 for the mentally handicapped, seven for the maladjusted and one hospital school. Of these, 19 provided boarding facilities.
7.At present, there are 41 public hospitals providing a total of 20 550 general hospital beds and 7 681 illness-specific beds (for psychiatric, mentally handicapped and infirmary patients).
8.Severely mentally handicapped persons requiring intensive nursing care and rehabilitation services are cared for at Tuen Mun Hospital (200 beds), Caritas Medical Centre (300 beds) and Siu Lam Hospital (300 beds).

10.In 2001, there were an additional 340 places in sheltered workshops, 580 places in supported employment, 147 places in day activity centres, 50 places in training and activity centres for ex-mentally ill persons, 40 places in halfway houses, 400 long stay care home places, 360 places in hostels for the mentally handicapped, and 60 places in supported hostels.
