6.From the year 2000, pilot projects of converting land to forestry and pasture will be conducted in 13 provinces and regions, like Yunnan and Sichuan in the upper reaches of Yangtze River and Shaanxi and Gansu in the upper and mid reaches of the Yellow River. The planned arable land conversion is 5.15 million mu, and at the same time there will be 6.48 million mu manmade forestry and pasture on wasted land where conditions permit.
