1.This paper is an acoustic phonetic description of the initial consonants [b g l] in Xiamen (Amoy) dialect. Results show that they are actually prenasalized stops [mb ηg nd] respectively, rather than two plain voiced stops and a lateral sound as transcribed in the traditional literature.
2.Based on analysis of initial and non-initial short vowels, long vowels and its sound length , particular pictures of diphthongs, extra-short vowels, vowel harmony and word stress of Ujumchin vernacular by the acoustic phonetics methods, this article has given a detailed description on the phonetic features of Ujumchin vowel system.
